June 08th, 2014 And what is so rare as a (Sun)day in June?  Life in the 'hood, Sunday style.

Nose deep in buttercups, eating clover and meadow grass.
Sometimes I feel like I'm living on the set of Little House on the Prairie.  Today was one of those days.  The pace of my life somehow resets as I watch life around me move into Sunday slow.  Even the horses have a day of rest.

Of course, every day is a play-filled "day off" for these "new kids" on the block, but their turn will come.
While we were still eating breakfast, the traffic on Hickory Lane was picking up speed...no, the traffic was increasing in quantity.  Someone in the  neighborhood was hosting church...(which for us meant a plateful of moonpies and a fresh baked pie, lemon meringue, hand delivered yesterday by two shy barefoot boys.)

The morning was clear and cool and fresh, a perfect morning for a family walk to church.

Our family drove to church, worshiped together with what has become our Family, shared some joys and sorrows, and came home refreshed and renewed and truly grateful.  We feasted on Strawberry Shortcake, then enjoyed some quiet moments for reading on the swing, napping, or painting...I found time for a good brisk walk between light rain showers...however, I was not pulling a wagon loaded with three siblings!

Did they notice the red geranium in the cemetery? I investigated later...grave marker of a man who died in 1904. I wonder who remembered and marked that particular grave?

I captured these photos mid afternoon as our neighbors made their return trip.  I wonder if the wagon puller felt less energetic on the walk home;  I noticed one of the riders had become a pedestrian!  By the time the little family reached the steepest part of their trek, Dat was pulling the wagon and Mam was once again carrying the youngest.  But even Dat might welcome a helpful push on the long walk home.

Day's end found us feasting on friendship and strawberries.  (Again.)  What a great combination. What a restful day. An ordinary June Sunday.  A day for refreshment and rest, a day for gratitude. A day for worship and family and friends. (And, a day for strawberries.)

Heading home, together.
