“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Every day?
The best day?
I guess I need to write it on my heart because some days I’m going to need that reminder.
Ha. Okay.
Most days.
How is this day the best day of the year?
Maybe because I’m living it.
I can’t relive yesterday, (even if I’d want to, and most days I wouldn’t.)
And tomorrow? It is way out there, might come, might not. All I have is today.
I haven’t visited the “be where your feet are” philosophy lately, but this sounds just like it.
I want to live in this day,
see this day,
hear this day,
smell this day,
feel this day,
even taste this day (tastes like…a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin on Hickory Lane tonight!)
I want to fully experience this day, because it’s all I have, and I won’t have it for long. Even when the day goes haywire from the beginning and plans go out the window, I want to take that as my clue to watch for God to show up because somehow He always does. Every day.
And when God shows up, that is certainly the best day of the year.
To be followed by another day of God showing up…and then another.
I continue to be astounded by and deeply grateful for His unfailing, utterly dependable faithfulness,
the daily Presence.
Oh.Brrrr.
Oh. Cold.
Oh. Beauty. Everywhere.
Ice etching on tiniest twigs and barbed wire, weeds, telephone lines. I couldn’t see 30 yards ahead of me on the road, but the unfolding view was…a lot of this: (Hickory Lane was white on white on white. So much beauty. Impossible to capture. So, I took these photos a few hours later. A brief interlude of blue sky background highlighted the whiteness as the fog lifted, and then, so quickly, the ice art slipped away.)
I came home and still had a bit of time to linger at my desk…I found this verse:
“By the breath of God, frost is given,” (Job 37:10)
and I knew it was true.
It was just an ordinary winter day,
but God showed up.
He breathed on my day.
He always does,
but this morning I noticed.
And it nearly took my breath away.
